Carlingford Lough facilities

Tue Apr 12, 2011 1:25 pm

Hey was looking for some advice on carlingford lough for fishing. Finally fully restored my boat after a long year. We are thinking of heading to carlingford try fish for mack and cod and maybe just maybe get my first tope.
Would anyone have any advice on slipways that would be best to launch only a 17ft boat also is there any facilities around that we could get a shower like hotel or swimming pool that I could use the shower afterwards around the area.
Any help appreciated

I live not to far from Carlingford. My mates and myself usually launch our boats at the slipway at Greenore(4kms south east of Carlingford). We use it because its closer to the mouth of the Lough and less tide dependant than the slipways in Carlingford itself. Its fine for about 4 hrs either side of HW, outside of that you will manage it with a 4X4. In Carlingford itself the slip beside the adventure centre at the start of the east pier is ok for about 2 hrs either side of HW, once its not blocked by an old trawler as it sometimes is. There is also a fine slipway that belongs to Carlingford Sailing club at the back of the pier. Ask them nicely and they may let you use it. There is also a slipway at the marina, but forget it, they will try and charge you.
As for showers, well there is nowhere in Greenore, except possibily in the Golf Club which is about 5 mins walk from the slipway. In Carlingford The Sailing Club have shower facilities, again ask nicely and they may help you. Also the Four Seasons Hotel in Carlingford has a full leisure centre and are another possibility.
Best of luck with your newly restored boat.
