DUBLIN PORT COMPANY
NOTICE TO MARINERS
No. 15 of 2011
(This Notice supersedes Notice to Mariners No. 11 of 2011)
Borehole Drilling within Dublin Bay and its Approaches
(Relocated Positions)
As advised, the Dublin City Council (DCC) project relating to the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant will involve the use of the jack-up barges “Aran 250”, and “Pauline”. These jack-up barges will be used for the drilling of test boreholes at various locations within Dublin Bay and its approaches.
During normal weather conditions the borehole drilling will operate on a 24 hour / 7 day week basis. On occasions there will be two jack-up barges operating simultaneously at different locations.
At all times when the jack-up barges are on location they will transmit an “AIS” signal. By night the barges will display white lights (operated in unison) flashing Morse code (U) every 15 seconds. These will be located at each corner. The barges themselves will be illuminated by operational deck lights.
When the jack-up barges are operational they will have the standby boats “James Joyce” and “Brian Boru” with two people on board in attendance. The standby boats will tie-up to a buoy moored approximately 300 metres away from each of the barges.
The small tug “Trojan” will operate as a supply boat and the tug “Multratug 7” will be used for towing the barges from one location to the next.
The relocated test borehole drilling positions (WGS 84) are as follows :-
