Mooring in Aghada

Hi all,

I'm just back from the POC and I have my new mooring in Aghada.
Its on the breakwater side and close to the shore.

I'm trying to find out details of dropping a mooring. I have been give a number for Monk who will do it for 700~

I took a drive down there on the low tide and was amazed by the number of "washed up" mooring blocks?

There was easily a dozen.

What are they and why are they there?? I really hope they have not been washed up by swell?

Does the port authority pull then then dump them there?

Whats the odds there are already a few blocks right where my boat will go and I'll just be dumping one on top???

Wouldn't think they were washed up  might have been exposed on the recent low tides

700 euro is a lot of money for a mooring.

why not ring the Port of Cork and see if they will sell you a good confiscated one, maybe lucky.

They were only the mooring blocks... they cost about 100-150 new...

Believe it or not, the chain, swivels and shackles are the most expensive part.

Think they were pulled and dumped there by the port authority last year... exposed on a neap... free to anyone who can lift them ;)

The Port of Cork take all confiscated moorings back to their yard in Ringaskiddy so those ones you describe are definately owned by someone, Are they possibly the coastal rowing or sailing club course markers  Ciaran Monks is your best bet as he works for the Port of Cork and will put you where you should be and not in or interfering with someone else's spot where they will haul it on you then charge you dearly to return it to it's rightful place.

Not sure who owns them, I was talking to Ciaran last week and he was not sure either.
I'm hoping he can lay my mooring in the next few days.... boats ready to go!! Just hard to get hold of him at the moment!
