My first boat - how do I moor it !?

HI Guys

We have just bought a 16' boat with cuddy 2nd hand. It's coming next Monday. I wonder if you could give me some guidance on basic principles of how I tie her up and anchor her. How much rope to do I need for the anchor, any on-line sources of info' about this stuff - in fact anything that might help me get started would be immensely appreciated as I've never had a boat before and know nothing !

Thanks !

I wouldn't rely on advice online to moor my boat. If I was you I'd ask some of the locals around where you'll be mooring. There's a lot of factors to consider like tide, anchors, sea state, shelter etc The local guys would be best placed to advise you.

Are you asking how to anchor it, or how to moor it?

Whereabouts will you be keeping it?

Well both I suppose. I've actually been looking a lot at the boats currently moored/anchored and they are all tied-up by a rope from the bow and the stern - no anchor. Inver

They're two very different things, mooring and anchoring.

Send pete on this site a pm for advice on Inver, he might have local information on conditions there.

Do a quick google search on how to anchor small boats and have a read. See if it makes sense to you, and come back with any questions.
