Galway Bay Wreck

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone has the gps position for the wreck in the inner bay. There was an old coal ship went down off silverstrand, which I have on the old paper charts but dont think i could take the positions off it properly.

Anyone got any ideas.

try checking the divers sites some times they give out the spots

The one your talking about, I think, went down just about 1 mile south west of blackrock diving board. Its marked by a black metal pole marker or the reef it hit is. Its very shallow as the wreck was visable for a number of years. I think the marker/buoy is refered to as the margerita or maybe that was the ships name.

I dont think its the Marguerita, that was a buoy in the middle of the bay marking a rock pinnacle that almost broke the surface on spring lows. The top was blown off it in the late 70s, the buoy may still be out there.

Thats the very one donal, I dont guess you have the gps positions, as far as i know its not marked by the post that lies to the north of the channel markers. The post ground is exposed at low tides and is really broken up, not sure if there is much left of the wreck but think it lies to the south west.

The GPS numbers are on the bottom left handside of the picture

Many thanks Donal, what software are you pulling that up on? Thanks again I'll let you know how you get on and if your ever up this way with a rod your more than welcome to a spin out to it and fish it for a few hours.

no it wont, the coords on this site are 100's of yards off some of the marks.

a ship hit it a bout 5 years ago so its no longer visable i also ""heard"" from a guy that the remainder was blasted by the army it wasn't a great wrek for fishing anyway too shalow. id be intrested to know how you get on if you fish it. often thought about snorkeling around it to see what it looks like
