service avet drag?

the drag on my avet sx has got a bit juddery, how do you make it smooth again?
both the drag washer and the disk seem fine, no sign of sea water getting in
despite years of neglect. i saw some guy posting on another site advising
put a special drag grease on there, though he seems to think this is to protect against water ingress,
which doesn't happen on my reel, does the drag washer have a limited life span
and need replacement?

Hi John,

I've read many of Alan Tani's threads regarding drag grease.... I would guess that it can't hurt?? You might be able to get a replacement drag from smoothdrag.com

Hi John,

Some say that drag washers should be replaced at least once every two years. Usually it’s enough if you wash them in benzine (or similar cleaning solution like extraction naphtha) and then put a thin coating of grease. You can always use dedicated drag grease but from the experience of many anglers standard reel grease works about as good.

And I totally agree with Kev that smooth drag a is good choice. Basically it’s carbontex mat. I recently replaced my washers in both my CU301DSV and TEK700 to carbontex. I still need to confirm myself if the drag is smoother but when I was testing drag in my TEK700 when it was new, the dynamometer showed around 30lb of drag. After replacement of washers I gave up on testing once I broke 40lb line twice during test...

I bought my carbontex washers from http://www.castawaylakes.com/ReelAccessories.html
Not sure if you will get ones for Avet but you could give a call to the guy from http://www.smoothdrag.com/ and he will cut you drag washers as you require – just give him dimensions. You still need to apply thin coating of grease on washers. One of the most recommended on many different angling forums reel & drag grease is “cal`s universal reel & star drag grease”
