Fenit

Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:13 pm

Was going to bring the boat down to Kerry and launch from Fenit tomorrow afternoon.

I will be there after lunch - it won't be high tide. Are my wasting my time? - is there any mackie bashing or will i target certain species, if so - what species?

What are conditions like down there if there is a bit of wind?

Are my better off waiting or will i hit Kilkee/Kilbaha?
thanks

Cormac

From memory the slipway is tidal. Timing is everything :) The winds are light westerly so the conditions should be Ok
There are plenty of species to chase within the bay and out beyond the maherees and onward to brandon there is the possibility of great fishing.

The Yacht Club slipway (I think that is the one by the pier) drys, I would say AT LEAST two hours either side of low. I think there is another slip but it is equally tidal I'd say launching within a couple of hours of HW would be in order here as well. The gradient at the start of the slips is OK but it rapidly tapers off to fairly flat. The water goes out a long way from the end of the slip so roping would be to no avail.

There's a lovely new slipway in Scraggane but it is a good tow out the peninsula.

I am sure someone else here will have more in depth knowledge of timings.

I've only used the slip to the right of the yacht club twice now, I'm fairly sure you would be ok within a couple of hrs of lw even on a big tide, it's not that steep, I did rope the first time as the green slime was bad, it's not to bad now though.

Showing both slips, I would use the one on the right, there is parking just above.

thanks SeanP, any spots I should target? Even on low tide could I pick up some macks for bait or should i stop at Landers on the way?
