Currane open boat sat 7th Aug

Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:29 am

Im thinking about heading down to this comp, in Aug. Has anyone on here ever fished the comp or that area (Achill Island)before. Boat reports from Connaught in general but espically Mayo are hard to come by.
Im looking to find out what would the main species be?

I have already emailed the club sec, and the reply I got was very helpful......."expect anything"

If your looking for any comp results from Connaught let me know ;-) ..... the most recent comp result from Clew Bay (which is the venue for the comp on the 7th) that i have to hand was as follows:

Westport SAC

54th Westport Sea Angling Festival

Weds 23.06.10 Shore comp Inishgort Lighthouse Clew Bay
Fri/Sat/Sun 25/26/27th June 2010 3 Day Boat Clew Bay

42 Competitors 3 Clubs 5 Boats

Competition Times - 09:45-16:45 Fri/Sat/Sun

Weather Fri & Sat sunny and bright a little breezy on Sat, Sun was dull with squally showers and gusting wind.

Winner: Steve Quinn (England)
2nd: Shane Gilvarry (Newport)
3rd: Margaret Sweeney (Allergan)
4th: Alan Reid (Wales)

2635 Fish Recorded

Fish were not overly plentiful due to weed causing anglers to loose both fish and gear (No weed in Clew Bay at present)

Bull Huss: 112
Thornback Ray: 231
Blonde Ray: 1
Tope: 1
LSD: 2290

Noticeable increase in both small Huss and Ray

Hope this answers your query and as Treasa said expect anything in August ;-)

Fishing will be over mixed ground & reefs with some patches of sand... Northern side of Clew Bay & out around Clare Island...
main species:

Cod, Pollack, Wrasse, Ling, Conger, Huss Pouting etc with Ray & Flats over sand they don't get too many dogs in the area...

So a good mixed bag to be expected.

Contact:

Treasa Walsh Currane SAC Secretary connpc@eircom.net to enter as far as I know they have 3 boats available & theres a few spaces left...
