Lure and feather - Cork Harbour

Being pretty new to boat fishing I am wondering is there much point in fishing out of cork harbour with only lures and feathers with no bait on them.If so, any tips on suitable gear.

Welcome to SAI. I edited the title of your post to attract the attention of our Cork denizens. There's one or two of them about, someone will be along shortly to advise you.

But you should be able to jig up some mackeral on unbaited feathers, then cut them for bait for other species.

I was out in the harbour last weekend using feathers an jigging. Result was 8 Pollock, 4 codling, a double shot of Gurnad an although the mackeral are in short supply we caught 14 so there's plenty to catch. Like the man says you can then bait up using the mackeral, the boat next to us pulled up two conger using mackeral as bait off the bottom, one was double figure.

The harbour is excellant for different species. Go out an enjoy!

Hokkais, feathers, and sabiki's (unbaited) are all accounting for codling within the harbour at the moment. You certainly might increase your chances by baiting up, but its not entirely necessary at the moment.

Have those pesky codling still not buggered off Pat....!

...and pesky whiting! I had a few to 2lbs this morning at the edge of the Bank.

good advice there Pat, adding scent to lures or hokkai rigs can make the difference between success and failure.
