Pollock and ling

Im going out from portrush soon out on a sand bar using 1Lb wieghts or so, i was wanting to know what is the best method of getting ling and pollock. Could also be hitting some wrecks to.

I dont know the depth but id say it would be about 200~ft about 10~15miles out

Would a flowing trace with baited jellys/eels or something else do the job?

Just looking for some general advice really so i have the right tackle before i go.

If you are fishing a sand bar mate the chances of pollack and ling are pretty slim. Your flowing trace fished hard on the bottom with bait attached would be your better option. I havent fished that neck of the woods but as a general rule those 2 species wont be found on a sand bar.

I didnt think about that, turbos now your talking, might have to get some worms sorted for it and see if there are any good sized flats about nailed to the bottom, just its a 9 hour trip and want to get all tackle sorted before i go.

BTW if anyone knows any info on the "Middle Bank" would be great.

The best person that will be able to tell you what you need is the SKIPPER himself, he is the one putting the trip together, give him a ring:wink:
he should have no problem telling you what you might need and what tactics he would reccomend for the trip, most likley your worried over nothing, it will all come together on the day

The middle bank…. I’ll be interested to hear how you get on!
It does have a reputation for throwing up decent fish, Big Pollack, Ling, Coalies, Cod, Turbot, Plaice, Spurs etc.
But ……. This ‘reputation’ seems to be based more on commercial catches during the winter, (probably from years ago too!) as I know of two different crowds that headed out there during the summer and caught very little.

Ill be deffinatly be putting up a report when i get back form it, with plenty of pictures.

Im interested on seeing some of the perspective pollock reports from last year of pollock in the 14lb bracket.

Also found that the middle bank is rough rocky ground basically a bank of rock between the North Coast and Soctland.
Fingers crossed the weather holds for the 7th.

Ah. More like a reef than a sandbar, then. Not so good for the flatties then.
