Wreck fishing - Bray

Thu Feb 25, 2010 3:35 pm

Hi all

This recession has me dreaming of sunny days with rod in hand!!

I fancy doing something different this season and just wondering if anyone has tried wreck fishing out of Bray?

I have heard there is a wreck a good way out off Bray Head called the Vanguard, has anyone got the co-ordinates or fished it?

Also been told of wrecks off the Mugglins and on the Kish.... has anyone tried em?

There are a few small wrecks off the muglins and one very old one between the island and the muglins. The fishing can be very poor with the seal colony though however I did see a 7 or 8 lb pollock being caught there last July which would be exceptional for the area. I haven't given any of the Wrecks off Bray a go yet but I'm hoping to give the kish a whack soon and will post a report. The trawlers have been doing the usual so I'm not holding my breath.

i have fished most of the wrecks including the vanguard, leinster, bolivar, guide me II,vespa, glenoche, they are not as productive as you would think, most of them are in quite shallow water, you would fair better fishing inshore marks to be honest

john a mate of mine is a regular diver. and he told me the guide me is a pretty good fishing wreck. but the currents are too strong most of the tide. he says you only have an hour of slack water to be able to fish

yes thats the bloody problem with it over slack water the POXY DIVERS APPEAR,
it's a fairly deep wreck for around here, approx 120 ft the problem is it a small trawler type boat hard to position on it right

Now now lads!!
Ye’ll have the tree huggers and the seal sanctuary after ye! :D
Down this way,I reckon we have more seals than ever before around the harbour. Not much of a problem at present but I hate them hanging around when I’m fishing.
Got a great fight from one though  :

jim i had a big bull nearly come on to the deck last year. lost a good pair of boxers in the process had to do something. the gobshite with the charter in howth gets them to jump up for the mackeral as a type of show for his tourists. there must be 60 seals on irelands eye and we were being plaqued by them. but bounce something off there heads and they go away
by the way a very happy birthday jim dont get too drunk
