Hi all
Due to some commitments next year i am having to look a long way ahead in order to book some time off from work.
So as i know some of you have some experience this year can you tell me if you feel early to mid august would see a chance of some blues being in and around the south west coast?
Thanks
Adam

I recon it will be a peak of the season, go for it!
One of my best shark trips this year were in early to mid August off the south-west coast (Unionhall). Later in the year blue sharks tend to move a bit up north.

Hi Adam,
On the South and S.W coasts blues are usually around from mid June to mid October sometimes a little earlier and, or later with the peak season being late July to the end of September.... Mackerel are usually the problem if you don't get enough which can often be the case early and especially later in the season and of coarse our wonderful WX we are now so used to

Cheers mohawk thanks for the info
Hopefully mack wont be a problem as we will be down for a full week and can stock up during the first few days to have enough for rubby dubby

Thats a good plan!!! Day old macks work best for shark dubby if you can put them in buckets or a bin with a sealed lid over night and dont wash them, they mash nice and easily the following day.... bring a strong clothes peg for your nose

the best shark fishing for us was from mid september onwards outside of youghal. we tagged and released 20 up to the first week in october and i reckon they are still there as there is plenty mackerel about.
