Derek,
Depending on what part of the Island you went to ?? From the harbour in Howth to the south side of Lambay is 7 miles !!

were ye flat out or cruising? Always makes a big difference.
Last year on the first day of the Cork small boats I managed 70km on about 35 litres. I was mostly cruising at about 18 knots.

Howth to Lambay on the chart below is 6nm.
20ltrs for 12nm even 14nm is quite a thirsty beast! - around .7nm Ltr. What engine is it?
Kevs would be approx 38nm for 35ltr - .92nm per litre - thats on a 60 being driven like a knickers!
I would expect around .8 - .9nm per litre - 100hp - mixed driving

shes a 40hp yamaha and that was flat out i was quite pleased with that as thats the furtest iv gone since i got the boat
she still needs some more ballast at the back just to bring her down the engine seems to hydroplane alot at full trottle
needs to come down

I would think that would be normal enough for a 40hp 2s.
Ballast on the back? Strange one. Maybe a set of Doel fins on the engine might help. I remember having them on a Orkney Fastliner and it helped keep the nose down a bit.

yes jim there no 1 on my to do list they would help big time when we done the ballast on the boat stern was still a bit high
so it planes a bit
