Line for boat reel

New boat rod and reel arrived today both 20lb class, Whats the best all round line I should use in the reel? 30lb braid? I only get out on a boat about 3 times a year and I wouldn't be expecting anything huge. I do have a far more sturdier rod I will probably be using the reel on too. Suggestions? Nothing too expensive, the berkley firelind 30 squibs a pop

Personally, I'd put 20lb Fireline on it.

Hi cormdogg, I'm not making a recomendation to you, because im not experienced enough, and am learning on every trip out I get, but I loaded a 525mag with Penn wave blaster dyna braid, last week to use for deeper water. I already had a 525mag loaded with 30lb penn mono and had never used braid before. At the weekend I was out on Saturday and Sunday, fishing in around 100ft of water over sandy ground and in around 30 to 60ft of rough weedy ground. My intention was to use the braid in 100ft, and mono in at the rocks thinking that the 'stretch' in the mono would be better for pollack.
The braid out performed the mono in just about every way, so much so that on day two I never bothered with the mono at all!

have two reels for the boat fishing,one has mono for rough ground fishing and one has braid for deeper water or ray fishing,i find that both do the jobs there meant to,but i would prefer the braid for the sensitivity it gives.

30lb would be a good all rounder.

Your 30 will be fine. I have a tendency to use a high quality 50lb myself as I do a fair bit of match fishing on crowded boats and it stands up better when dealing with tangles and the like. Only time I use mono is pleasure fishing, spinning with a lead head.
