Failing that safest thing would be to head for the channel and head for Cobh and around.

Ringaskiddy can be very dodgy especially on springs because you are launching right on to the " Oyster Bank" but once you know where to go in a small boat there is no worries.When you launch from Ringaskiddy any time from an hour after half tide (ebb) you should steer straight over to the Monkstown end corner of Haulbowline Island past the red buoy (22) and past the concrete tripod to Haulbowline by about 80m then turn back out for the tripod passing almost skimming it and the next concrete perch on the Haulbowline side of both then under the low bridge. Paddy block point is also very dodgy you need to steer from the bridge to spike pier until Roches Point just disappears behind the point jutting out of Spike Island then steer for the timber perch out off Lough Beg as you reach level with the outer end of Spike steer for Camden pier n good fishing
At Ringaskiddy You will have 2.5 feet there no problem it's just that you need to go out the channel because you are launching out onto a bank so its not possible to go straight for the bridge I can go up there in a 35' boat most of the time although it's best avoided at LW on springs. The channel under the low side of the bridge has enough water all the time. the high bridge is dodgy at or near LW. If you look at the concrete tripod it is just out of Pete's picture above on the right there is a horizontal cross member between the legs if you can see that you need to go under the low bridge so follow my dirThections above! If that is covered you can go straight out for the high bridge!
There are two other dodgy places on the "Back Channel" one is "Paddys Point" just outside the bridge so you need to steer straight over to spike Island pier until Roches Point just disappears behind the point on spike Island then turn our and steer for the timber perch off Lough beg this can be hard to spot on your first run out, look for the white two story house on the waters edge out point road in Crosshaven and you will find the perch almost in line with it.
continue on that heading until you draw level with the outer end of Spike then steer for Camden Pier ! The other dodgy point it near the timber perch itself you will never be going near the perch itself you will be a few hundred yards away from it think of the perch as another church spire you don't go near the churches either
On your way in it is easier coming up to the bridge keep your stern on the light house of even a little into the harbour mouth after passing Camden pier and steer up for Rusbrooke (in Cobh) church spire it is near the left hand side of the estate of houses with the red roofs right over where the Irish steel used to be! Steer on that course until you draw level with that timber perch again don't pass it then line the perch up on your stern and head for Scotts church spire that is the tiny church right in the centre of the channel ahead of you.. it is the little museum on top off the hill just before you drop down into Cobh town! Steer up until your level with the arch on the bridge you go under to avoid Paddys Point, The Cathedral in Cobh is not used that's a common mistake!
Any one using the "back" west channel should practice using this method to navigate it and not get too dependant on your chart plotters

A good reason to learn it is the Navy's officers bar on Haulbowline and the Maritime College are brilliant all glass viewing galleries for large audiences if you do ground
I've seen smallish punts hard aground on Paddy's Point in an ebb tide so don't take it for granted
