Did anyone see the programme on tv last night (Monday) about the artficial reefs (sunken navy ships etc ) ??? Was really interesting show. Based mostly round the sinking of the HMS Scylla off the cost of England somewhere. Here's a link to the Company who carried out the sinking - some good stuff on here.

I'm hoping that all the rocks being dumped on the Arklow and Kish banks as foundations for the wind turbines will act as aartificial reefs and improve the boat fishing off the East coast

I understand that a few years ago a plan was hatched to develop an artificial reef off the East coast between Rush and Lambay. The idea was to use concrete filled old tyres. These would then be chained together before dropping them into a predesigned structure. The idea seems to have ground to a halt. Anyone heard of it or know what is happening?

I have found out that the stumbling block is money (as always) €5000 is needed initially to complete a survey, then the sea bed has to be leased from the government...Looking for benefactors especially from the used tyre industry.
