Alright lads, its being done elsewhere and they always seem to have a whale of a time so its probably about time we looked at something similar ourselves. Dont want to tread on any toes elsewhere so looking at something slightly different.
Is there any interest on here for a couple of small boat site meets through the year? I was thinking about our inaugural one being say an excursion to the Shannon after tope with some other varied fishing the day after should anyone so feel inclined.
If there is interest then I'll examine the logistics of the whole affair and garner info on the various bits and pieces like launch sites, marks, accomodation, storage etc

Well, Pete you know what I think on the matter
(and for the benefit - or otherwise - of the rest of you, good idea)

will boats of 26 feet in length be considered small boats for the purposes of this trip?
i'd be on for it if so

Of course JW, bagsy not reversing that thing down a slip though (or pulling it out for that matter...) ....

You're moored up there arent you John?

Chalk me down for this. I'll have one seat available for a hard working crewman.

I love hard work. I could sit around all day just looking at it....

You can be like the buffet car JW, supplying bacon sambos to the lads roughing it....

I'd be on for it, in principle, like, if I knew what date we thinking of having it... and if i got a berth with someone.

It was Feta I had JD....

This is not a misprint, its fact, JW is a gentleman angler with a lunch bag more befitting an outing on Mask than a bunch of smelly sea anglers.
I'll rephrase, can you look after the catering for us aboard Whitewater with some Organic Free Range Gloucester Old Spot, hand carved, lightly cured, old english oak smoked rashers on some still warm Ciabatta bread imported direct from Italy (you look after the logistics) topped off with some buffalo Mozzarella please....

JW, I'd tell this lot, in the words of Jasper Carrot, to
Go Forth and Multiply

hmm this idea sounds better all the time - are we required to wear formal dress for dinner JW?

I often wondered about this. The unpredictability of the weather is the problem. You can read reports of well organised meets on other sites getting hammered by the weather and ending up a piss up (nothing wrong with that at times either

) From that point of view we tend to choose our location to suit the weather on particular weekends.
Still, it would be good to get something in motion…

Often Wondered about this myself.... There were good numbers of Tope on the East Coast last year..... What about a Tope / Smoothie weekend sometime in the summer on the South East Coast? I know BAI are having a Cork meet, perhaps a similar meet a little later in the year? We could also try Kilmore, although you would need decent weather.... Just a few thoughts that are mulling around the brain at the moment.

Would a kayak count as a small boat?
Tue Jan 27, 2009 5:01 pm
I hear you jim. Important i think to pick a venue that offers shelter if things turn nasty, hence opting for the shannon. Anthony, unless you have arms like popeye and can paddle faster than the speed of light, i just wouldnt recommend heading out on the shannon in a kayak. The currents are absolutely savage there.
Tue Jan 27, 2009 5:05 pm
I hear ya.
I would certainly be interested in a meet if someone could give a man some deck space??
Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:28 pm
many thanks for the menu suggestions which I will pass on to the people who
do my on board catering

the boat is too heavy to tow or launch, so she will be in kilrush marina for
the summer.
As jim and Pete say, due to the very strong tides conditions on the beal bar can change suddenly
for the worse in unsettled weather

Count me in, would have space for an experienced angler (must be willing to share a few tips in return !!! )
