raider 18 fisherman model

a good friend is interested in getting one of these boats any of u lads had a session in one or own one would like to know what you think of them any comments would be welcome. cheers.

For the small boat "angling" market, people seem to prefer the Cuddy over the fisherman. The consensus is that the fisherman gives you more comfort but also catches a bit more wind and can make fishing on the drift a little more arkward at times. You also get slightly more deck space with the 18 cuddy. I think are two 18 fisherman users on here from time to time, so hopefully they will chime in for you.

I moved from a Raider 16 fisherman to an 18 this year. It is a superb boat. There is a huge amount of space in it. As I am tall I like the Fisherman. In bad weather I can sit in the seat and just hold my rod. The drift in the wind is a little faster than a cuddy boat. I had an Orkney with a cuddy and found that I had to stand to see over the cuddy when moving at speed. This was another factor in going for the Fisherman.


However, each to their own and I bet that there will be replies swearing that the cuddy is better.


Either way you will not go wrong with a Raider.

we are upgrading from a orkney fast liner with cuddy we done a lot of work to her. but want something a bit more up to date . he was thinking of the predator 165 offshore but now rekcons the raider. we had the same problem with the orkney having to stand up to see over the cuddy while on the move. we have a mooring in wicklow harbour too but will be taking it to kilmore next summer. what size engine would be good on it we were thinking 80 hp. are they stable on the water both at anchor and at moving.

Mine came with an 80hp Mercury. This is adequate, does up to 22knots and is economical. Many people use the 100hp for greater speed but I am happy doing 15-20knots and using less juice.

It is a very stable boat. I put hydrolic trim tabs on it and this helps get on the plane more easily. There is no comparison between it and an Orkney. The Raiders are a more modern and far superior boat in every way. By the way I brought mine in form the UK as the savings were very considerable. The company even shipped it free of charge to Dublin.

thats good advice on the uk stan we will look into it did u get any extras with her and did u buy direct from the raider boats . i think he will be getting this model his mind seems made up made up and think he is looking at the 90hp for it. also did u get the trailer and all and if u dont mind disclosing what sort of money you paid all in .

The raider don't come with many extras, as you can see from the recent electric bilge fitting thread. I asked for an A Frame and Aux Bracket with mine. I also asked John to fit the radio. I have the 16 Cuddy
