Hi there,
Peter here. Just registered today. Wondering if any of you guys have advice for picking up more species in a boat comp. I fish in Clonakilty bay - anywhere from Seven Heads to Glandore bay.
We usually can pick up 13-14 but you need 16+ to win in the competitions around this area.
I cant seem to pick up any gurnards - red, grey or tub? I know they usually are on sandy or muddy ground. Any advice on tackle, bait or area?
Garfish - a float with a small mackeral strip is the best weighted just below the surface?
Any smaller species advice?
Any help would be appreciated.

red gurnard
Usually pick them up on the bottom baited feathers bumped along, prefer mixed ground and not necessarily pure mud or sand.
dragonets, very localised but territorial, if you find them they are there every year...
