Gweebarra estuary information.

Hi all,

I live quite close to the Gweebarra and I am considering taking my yak out on it at the weekend.

Can anyone give me information on it? Is the tide VERY strong.
What species are catchable in it?
Where can the mackeral be located?
Are the tope plentiful in it?

Oh no..... this could get complicated. :(

The NRFB, in conjunction with the local AC, have imposed a Catchement Area based Management Plan on the Gweebarra for salmon angling.

One of the results of this is that you now need to buy a day permit to fish the Estuary. You will probably be checked for State Salmon Licence and Fishery Permit.

Donegal Game Anglers are protesting this. They've asked visiting anglers not to fish the Gweebarra until the NRFB meet with them to discuss resolving the issue.

I don't want to take up too much bandwidth with the whole issue here; it is after all a fresh water problem and we're Sea Anglers, but pm me for more info if anyone's interested.

I know about the issue and I was out on the Gweebarra bridge supporting them.

But I don't see any problem in using animal traces.

Really? We'll have to meet up time and say hello.

It's always worth a try, but be prepared to be boarded! Presumably you know who to talk to if you do get hassled?

Thanks for the heads up.
