Plotter Charts

Hi Guys,

Just wondering what charts you consider best for Ireland. I am looking for quality and level of Detail.

I was looking at the C-MAP charts (W24 All Ireland), but was wondering what Navonics and Garmin blue charts options were out there.

Any idea on this one?

Hi Kev,

Using Garmin myself - Ireland West and it's really good. Great detail where ever I've used it - Galway and West Cork..

What sort of plotter are you looking at? I've the Garmin 178C and I cannot complain about it in anyway.

Some seem to be slightly more detailed than others. You have to wonder though as the charts are only converts from paper charts. I haven't heard of any company developing "new" charts.

It will all come down to the make of plotter you buy. Garmin use their own BlueChart (and Bluechart g2) charts. Navman and others use Cmap while Lowrance use Navionics.

I would imagine your engine will be "Smartcraft" enabled. If you get the right plotter you will be able to get lots of useless info from your engine! :) Seriously though the plotter will work as a display for your engine giving you fuel comsumption, pressures, temps etc. You will need a cable from the engine to the unit. If the engine is capable then Raider should be able to supply the cable.

kev,

that was blue chart you saw out on the whitewater. Seems very good, although there is one spot around skerries islands shown as 5 meters deep but it's less than a meter

you will need to connect an nmea output to the dsc vhf so it knows your position in real time

more importantly, have you decide how to cook the sausages????
