Toneyo,
Is it mapsource you are looking at?
I take it you know that you may have to buy additional unlocking codes depending on the regions you want (two codes will unlock all Ireland. I think you get at least one code when you buy).
There are different cables depending on the GPS unit. The one I have for the 172C is a serial cable (called a power & data lead 010-10276-01
) you will see which one you need on the Garmin Site. Many modern computers do not have a serial port so you might also need a serial-USB converter cable. You can also buy a data card reader. It is not really necessary if you have the data cable.
Mapsource will “mate” to your GPS. You can change GPS twice in the lifetime of the unit. You can then copy maps to a blank card. These maps will only be useable in your unit.
You will be able to download your marks to your computer and see charts on your PC as well as tracks etc.
Jim. :)
