you could try a 3 hook flowing rig, (see pic) very very versitile rig. you can fish it in a variety of ways.
if over rough ground:
lower it all the way to the bottom and allow rig to rest on bottom for approx 30 seconds, this will target and codling, pollock, pouting, ling and wrasse in the area. if no bites materialise in the 30 seconds retrieve the rig very very slowly, aim at about 1/2 wind of the handle per second. this will target pollock, coalies and codling.
rag and belly strip of mac will do the job
over sand.
leave it on the bottom, if the boat is drifting, try alternating between dragging and allowing rig to sit still, try different drag:rest ratios until you find one that works. this will target, codling, whiting, coalies, flats, dogs, ray etc
again belly strip of mac or worm will do the job.
alternatively try baited feathers/ hokkais fished in a 3 up pattern, no need to jig them but a little flick every couple of seconds can work wonders. baited with rag, mac or muscle for the usual species
dont know if this is of any help, but i hope it does
