Lads
Just wondering has anyone ever heard of a sunfish being caught on rod and line here?
Reason I'm asking is one was caught from a charter boat out of Spiddal on Sunday, and its the first time I've heard of one being caught by anglers...

One or two have been mentioed on here.
Iona reported to catch one from rosstoonstown, think a search may throw up a few other refences too. Pretty sure they are rather a rareity to be caught on rod and line here though.

Yes, it was on Kevin's boat, and he did say where, but I won't be giving out any of his marks

Around 13 years ago one was caught in the Kilcar Boat Comp, took baited hokkai's. Aside from it and the one on this sites album I'd never heard of another having being caught

We saw one beside the boat on sunday fshing out of Downings. Never thought of throwing a bait at it. Would have been useful as we were fishing a species comp. I thought they only eat jellyfish.

In today's Irish Times (Friday, 31st August, 2007):

Sunfish tagged for first time in Irish climate change project

Barry Roche, Southern Correspondent

A team of international scientists have succeeded in satellite tagging ocean sunfish off the Irish coast in the first operation of its kind in Irish or UK waters.

They believe the project may provide vital information on climatic changes in the Irish and European waters.
