Newbie - Help Needed

Hi folks, new to this site hopefully I can learn a few thing from the more experienced anglers on what appears to be a great forum.

I live in the Carlingford Lough area roughly 4 miles from Cranfield Point (mouth of the lough, northern side). I am really struggling to catch at the moment, there are plenty of Pollack to be had on the fly and Mackerel are abundance but I'm more interested in the bottom dwellers such Tope, skate, and any type of dogs (even LSD).

I need to start catching something, at present I'm putting baits out which are being cleaned by crabs which is starting to frustrate the hell out of me, I do anything for a day catching the LSD's to build the confidence back up.

If anyone haas any tips let me know, appreciated.

not sure about marks in your area, but try to anchor down over a sandbank using a three hook flowing trace. length of the trace will depend on the tide run, as a general rule make it shorter when tide is running hard. use 3/0 with red muppets over them using fresh mackerel as bait. for tope try a 6ft running ledger made of wire/heavy nylon and a 6/0 maybe 8/0 hook. weigh these rigs down a boom and use swivels as tope sometimes like to spin.

go on round towards ardglass if you can and you will find your catch rate going up.

Cheers for the response, there are plenty of sand banks around which used to be full of tope & doggies, I've only had a couple of evenings at them without any luck but these have been short sessions, I'll try using the three hook flow trace on one of the rods to see if that produces the doggies.

Sounds good, but there's alot of water between myself and Ardglass. I have a good enough Idea on how to fish for my chosen species but I don't have a clue on how to locate fish. Is this an experience thing or are there certain rules that should be followed.

Carlingford area is full or was full of fish..............

started catching doggies today, it was too rough to try for Tope.
