Flattie rigs!

hi all, i just got some of those shamrock whistling spoons and i don't have a clue how to rig it for flatties off a boat. can someone enlighten me as to how to rig it and how to drift fish for flats? thanks 8)

it works well on double spreader rigs, have it on your snood coming from the spreader, then tie on your hook line with your beads or whatever...works for ray i hear...

tie the spoon on to 4 to 6 feet of mono, to the other end tie on 6-8 inches of mono, run a couple of inches of beads in alternating colours on to this short bit, then tie on your hook, size 1 should be ok.
tie the long end to a swivel, and attach this to the long end of a L shaped boom.
Bait the hook with lug or king rag, tipping it off with a sliver of mackerel belly or squid about 75-100mm long and no more than 5mm wide.
let it off to the bottom on the drift using a suitable weight, and when it hits the bottom leave off 20-30 feet of line then hold the reel with your thumb and feel that the lead is dragging along the bottom, if its not, leave off another 10 feet, if you still can't stay dragging the bottom try another 10 feet , or you may have to try a heavier weight.
you will get used to the dragging pulsing feel of the lead and its regular tempo, as you drift up the side of a bank the tempo will speed up till you come over the top, and it will feel "loose" for a second, leave out a couple of feet of line at this point. a bite will register as a rattle or a series of sharp pulls, immediately release your thumb and let off line for 10-15 secs, put your thumb back on the spool, and wait till the slack has been taken out of the line and lift the rod slowly to feel if there is any weight.. if there is put the reel into gear and off you go, if not, drop back and start all over again.
