just wondering what people think of a 1st timer using a 570 around the antrim coast maybe out to the maidens once a bit more confident and with someone who knows the area.
shes got a 70hp 2stroke evinrude at the minute but its had some of the electrics takin of it so depending on cost was thinking of changing to maybe a 4 stroke , what you think .

Hi johnston trust me when i say this for your own safety and anybody who fishes with you get a marine mechanic to have a look at your whole boat. When he is finished get the local RNLI sea safety officer to check out your Boat.
I would also recommend you doing a Power boat handling course (you will find out about them in your local Yacht club)
For Safety on your Boat as a minimum you will need the following:
Anchor and chain with at least 100 ft of rope.
Flares (inshore pack should be enough)
Life jackets for all persons on board
VHF Radio (with license to use it)
First Aide kit
About your engine why would any body remove the Electrics from an Engine ??? unless they were giving trouble??? I have a feeling that might not be your only problem with the Boat
The Shetland 570 is a good starter Boat for Estuary's and inshore waters and you will have manes a good day out on her. If you get the basics sorted they will stay with you for life.

the electrics were took off because they were good and my fathers a marine mechanic so got put to use on someone elses boat and never replaced (something im a little annoyed about)
the rest of the boats sound except for the fact its been sitting for 10 years it was my grandfathers and my grans looking it moved sold or used and i prefer the later especially if its up the the task of going outside belfast lough and a little further up the coast.
i know the basics especially the safety but last time i was at the helm of a boat it was about 14 years ago on the river bann (on the same boat) and running around with the sea cadets
