this seems to be all the rage (according to the latest mags) using long blade like lures, with assist hooks on top instead of trebles hanging from the bottom, just wondering if anyone has tried it and whats the verdict

Its same like pirking, originally from pirking, developed by japs and known as speed jigging. The diffrent is the japs have make the game more interested, with better light, tought and mostly high speed reel, low dia and light rods, lots of diffrent kind of jigs(pirk) with difrent action. One of the most sporting kind of fishing to target tuna,gt,amberjack, samson, rubby snapper etc....its been arround for 5-6 yrs if i still can remember, only recently that i observed that its start making way to this side of our water.I got a few vcd on jigging from malaysia, bali, japan and oz if anybody interested i can burnt it to u.

Regarding the assist hook, they are using kevlar line to attach 1 or two hook straight from the leader via solid ring and split ring and the jig connected to the solid ring with another split ring. The using of assist hook(wch is consist of a single hook and mount on the top or middle of the jig) is to avoid the jig snag the bottom since this kind of fishing is done on the deep underwater sea trench, drop off and wreck. They are mount that way to maximise the sensitivity when the fish take and when fighting the fish so the weight of the jig wont hamper the feeling.Other than to make the jig less snaggy, the purpose of the single is to get more solid and positive hook set and less foul hooked case wch will make the job to land the fish hard and time consuming.Since its one of the rough and physical kind of fishing, and most of the targetted species are fast and hard charger, the single hook will be more reliable than a treble.
