dingle charter trips

Hi all,

I'm over to dingle this weekend on a stag and have a charter booked for saturday afternoon, i haven't ever been out on a boat down there and would like to know what to expect, an afternoon of hauling macks and pollock up doesn't really interest me, is there a chance of anything more interesting: tope, huss, ray etc. there?

Don't know the name of the boat yet but can find out.

Best thing for you to do mate is give the skipper a call and see what he has to say about it. Get your oar in first before the rest of the group start chipping in with their ideas.... :wink:

spoke to the lad who booked the trip and he said he hadn't spoken to the skipper just some girl at the marina, apparently it was the onl charter he could find in dingle.

anyway we're sharing with some other anglers and according to the girl in the office are off fishing for something "big"... :P

is that fungi fella still there? :wink:

AFAIK he is, best of luck hunting "something big"! Some great fishing down that neck of the woods. Collar the skipper on getting aboard and ask him what his plans are and if he is on a pollack bash all day, see if he wont take you onto the sand for a while too. At the end of the day, you pay your money and take your choice, can be hard when your sharing though but Im sure most will be happy with that.

If it is a stag party package from a UK travel agent "specialising" in stag parties in Ireland including something like a "Half days sea fishing" and "a morning clay pigeon shooting" or go carting etc. Then you are most likely going mackerel bashing for a couple of hours, anything else is a bonus really.

afaik its not a stag package deal, one of the lads from limerick booked it, and hopefully the others on the trip will have some other ideas.

floating mack bashing is not my idea of a day out, although looking at the forecast we might be lucky to get afloat at all.

if its out of dingle town itself, i would be 99% certain you will be drifting over mixed ground , some rock some sand.

drifting anyway, if you are bringing your own gear and bait bring some worm and sandeel. over the rocks it will likely be macks, pollock, maybe coalies, pout , poor cod etc, maybe pick up a gurnard or codling on baited hokkais.

your chances for ray, huss or especially tope are gonna be very limited. best best would be to pop out a ledger with a fresh mack side and drift it behind the boat with a second rod and hope you pick up a ray, doggie or huss

in the end we couldn't get out anyway, weather was bloody awful on saturday and not much better on the sunday.

didn't even have a beachcaster with me to try for anything else.

A mate's dad took me on a tour of some local bass marks as I fancy another trip down there this summer, interesting to see the locals (or vandals) had removed, redirected or sprayed over many of the signposts for fishing marks, not very wewlcoming of them. :roll:

Beautiful spot though, and the pubs almost compensated for the lack of fishing. hic
