i fell into the trap before of buying cheap gear, never worth it, you wind up buying twice because of the poor quality, you may not get a second season out of them

Leeda Northstar 20-30lb class. Retail about 50 euro, ringed for braid too. Well worth the money. Oisin, keep telling ya man, 12-20lb is more than enough for what your doing though....

thing is pete...I got two 15lb trolling rods and they are very light.....some of the pirking and stuff will be for pollock in excess of 15lbs off west coast....still think 12-20lb is good enough....?

i just bought an uptider rated 2-8oz and find it fantastic. i know mickeyfish has the same rod and has pulled in tope in excess of 50lbs and conger in excess of 45lbs with them no bother. thats why i recommend you go for a good reliable rod and reel, fishing is definately a sport where you get what you pay for

I know the trolling rods you bought, I got suckered into a couple of them myself on Ebay, I wouldnt judge or compare any "proper" boat rods on those things TBH Oisin.

I bought a Masterline boat rod....... I don't do much boat fishing and the fact that this one comes with 3 tips (12, 20 & 30lb) was the selling point for me. I wen't on the Courtmac trip with the guys earlier this year and had great sport with the 20lb tip and managed a Coalfish to 11.5lbs in 100 meters of water. The rod was doubled over, but it stood the test really well and was great sport.
