First Sea Fishing Trip - advice required

Wed Apr 18, 2007 10:00 am

I'm about to go on my first sea fishing expedition.

A group of us have chartered a boat and skipper for the day sailing out to Ailsa Craig area.
We are being supplied with rods and reels and feathers, but have been told to bring along ragworm (mainly pollack I believe).

I have managed to source a half kilo of ragworm for GBP 12 and believe there are about 75 to 100 worms in the half kilo.

Looking to find out if anyone could give an idea of how much bait we would need for all 12 of us (we have an 8 hour charter and I'm assuming at least some of that will be going for mackerel with the feathers.) I'd guess 5 or 6 hours fishing with the ragworm.

Also - what hook size is recommended - I was thinking 1/0.

I've also been recommended the rubber worms - any thoughts on these?
