Warrior 165

If it was a MK2, would it be worth it?, or is there no real difference?

MK11 would be a better option. some improvements made on the change. + the trailor would also be newer.

best to get a few of each model together to compare what's a bargain and what's not.

after you have done that.

compare the brand new price.

remember that all the warrior bits and pieces can be bought at a later date and added. the basic kit is more than enough to get you going and that compared to a spec'd up 2nd hand may be a better option.

2001 warrior 165 is definitely a Mk11 they stopped making the Mk 1 in 1999.if its 12000 euros for the mark11 it would be well worth it.have to agree about the predator no comparison to the 165.

I personally think the predator is a nice boat. As your engine is nearly worth as much as your boat, you have to take both into consideration. Personally I would be looking for a package with a newer engine. That Mercury is about 7 years old. As you have not had it from new, you would not be 100% sure how well it was looked after.

The warrior is a fine boat, but they are expensive and hold their value....... maybe that's as a direct result of many warrior owners talking down everything else :D

A great piece of advice above is don't buy out of desperation. I very nearly done that myself a few times. There are plenty of boats out there, especially in the UK market and more come available every day, so hold your time, and try and get the best boat you can for your cash.

BTW,

The easy way to tell the difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 is the side window shape. The bottom of the side window on a Mk2 has a curve or slopes upwards as you can see in rodneys avatar above. The bottom of the Mk1 side window is straight.

I think i'll focus on getting a Warrior 165.
As a matter of interest :idea: Would it be worth my while trying to get the 04 Yamy 60HP 4 stroke PTT eng as part of the package (instead of the Mariner, as seller has both boats), or would the fittings and gauges etc. be unsuitable?

both will push the boat no problem.

hours run.
condition
fuel economy ( especially the way the cost id soaring now)
how much it will cost.
will it cost to change over

personally i would be looking more at the yamaha but that is a personal preference having owned both in the past.

I was in the exact situation last year as you are now.

There are a few more boats worth considering, the Endeavour 500, the Explorer Elite, the Alaska 500, the Seahog Samuria, the Raider 16

But like you i wanted a Warrior, spent 3 months looking at various websites, boats, ringing up endless private sellers and boat yards.

My head melted big time, got fed up listening to soo much bullshit from the sellers, i rung Warrior and placed an order, ok i absoulately blew the budget but i got what i wanted with all the extras.

If you can stretch it LB id buy brand spanking new, then you'll get what you really want.

Actually done something similar myself. I looked really hard at the warrior 165 and the raider 16.... Eventually decided to go for the Raider 16.... costs were one of the concerns, but I've also heard a lot of good things about the raider. Some of the UK anglers are not fond of them as the manufacturing of the boat was moved from the UK to Poland and they consider this a step backwards.

Anyway, After a month plus I just couldn't find what I wanted in the second hand market. In the end, I also phoned Raider and ordered direct.

I also blew the budget, but at least I knew exactly what I was getting.

bought an arvor 20 in the uk second hand two months ago, brought her back through holyhead to dun laoighre no problem no taxes no questions at either port from customs the uk is the spot to go shopping at the minute if your in the market for a new boat, we saved 1000"s, and dont be afraid to make the seller a stupid rock bottom offer at first...if he wants to sell your the man with the queens head in your pocket..good luck with the hunt............

I am now chasing have a couple of (warrior 165) options, an older MK2 01 Mariner 60HP (Hrs ?) and lots of extras, or a newer (03) MK2 with a new Mariner 60HP EFI and not a lot of extras (just VHF & rod holders). I am swinging towards the later boat, but i'm not sure what it's goin to cost me to add all the other toys (GPS, F/Finder, compass, anchor-chain and rope).
Is it expensive to add these (and other necessary) items?

if the 165 is from Kent and is £9500 be afraid. that was my first warrior and has done a lot more work than they are letting on + i sold it 4 years ago for £8500. :(

in the UK rope £20, chain £25 and anchor 7.5kb bruce £28

electronics. eg. silva s15 approx £100, Lowrance chartplotter £300 + fishfinder £200 approx. Compass £20-30

I'd tend to the newer 03 boat with the newer engine. I would have more confidence in it. That's important when you're out to sea.

As for it not having as many extras, look on it as a blank canvas. You can put on what you want, with the layout you want. That shouldn't be prohibitivly more expensive either.

I phoned a guy about the boat in Kent (Doug), and when I asked him how many hours were on the ENG, he said he didn't know, but had only done 25HRs himself?
It's not one of the 2 options i'm chasing anyway, I think i will go for the newer boat, and kit it out bit by bit. Thnx for the info lads.

Also guys, where is the best place to buy a new Raider direct or a new warrior?
I see a Cork site selling new warriors, but they're a bit on the pricey side!

I just want it for fishing with the lads, and/or take family out occasionally (so the rear seat would be important to me, plus the extendable canopy).

Security man, call Phil at Warrior direct and haggle with him for a good deal, they will load it on the ferry for you and you pick up this end, be sure you really want a rear seat before ordering, I have a brand new one in blue/white at a good price if you really do :wink: the canopy is very good.

I ended up getting a 2003 MK2 Warrior 165 with a brand new Mercury 60HP EFI engine. I was very close to travelling to the midlands to do a deal with a guy that has several boats (2006 example below) but I managed to locate the one I bought in Wales which was a better deal and a lot more handy from a travelling point of view.

I found this guy (in the the midlands) very god to deal with, he sent me all of the additional photos I requested (e.g. hull, and engine with cover off etc.). If you PM me with your details, I'll send you his details.

With the good wearher n all I decided against, as I thought it would be like a ZOO! :shock:
I want to keep it as straight forward as possible for my second launch. I'm planning on going out from DL tomorrow afternoon, I think low tide is between 4 and 5, but I believe the DL slip can be used at at all tides?

dl slip is fine at all stages of tide, be careful as it is like an ice rink when tide is out.
