How much most of this weight??500 grams??700 grams??a kilo??I dont trus on treble hooks...never use them on my jig...even on most of my plugs i used a single....a single or a double single tied assist style.It lessen the risk of getting snag.But to a void loosing jig u can put a lure saver split ring to your trable hook or assist hook..Check this review

lol costs more than my pirks will try the cabel ties to anser your question i use 300g with 40lbs mono its a bit on the light side so it drifets will be getting a biger mold soon proble 400g or so

out of 9 cod in the 2006 specimen book, only one was caught on a pirk and it was the smallest.

Some day i hope to have to modify my rigs too to cut back on the number of double figure cod i catch :lol:

haven't caught anythink on them yet :( and hered that only a real stonker will take them well ill keap trying with them as im a bellever wouuld have that more specimin cod would have gone for them then again not many people use them on the last 3 boat trips i was the only one using them

I dont know,maybe some ppl have their own style and oppinion.The current problem can be solve by using braid wch is thin and cut thro the water more efficiently.40lb braid will be enuff,even 30lb and 20lb can be use.Dont worry bout the number,braid is not like mono,most of the time the breaking strain is two time of what stated.They have no stretch and increase sensitivity.Increase fun when reeling in,u can feel every kick of the fish.Mono,hav a lot of stretch,each time u re jigging your rod ,the movement of the pirk/jig wont be the same as the movement of the rod move since a long mono in deep water tend to stretch and absorb most of the movement=less jig/pirk action to attract fish.Before braid ,during the mono era,the japanese jigger have to use 12-14 feet rod just to overcome the mono stretch so they can move their jig more and produce action to attract fish to strike.Thats why most of the modern jig is made long,thin and sharp to cut thro the water to reach bottom fast,and at the same time have their own action when falling.They dont just going down straight,they wiggle and flutter and most of the time trigger fish to attack before they even reach bottom.
Sorry guys,dont want to start a debate bout modern jigging and the traditional pirking here,just want to share and exchange oppinion,i start jigging when the jigging evolution by japanese start to explode back home in malaysia a few years back.Today in ireland,i discovered something that i never saw before and verry interesting.Thanx to rockhopper and you guys that so generously want to share an information bout the rare traditional jig/pirk.Hope that this thread wont die short and more information exchange can be done for our benefits.

Check out Sea Angler mags october and november 2006.Theres an article bout modern pirking/jigging in uk which i think can be succesful if tried/applied here in irish water.

what color should i paint my pirks?

Chrome, chromium - as shiny and bright as possible. They work best when flashing in deeper darker water. Do not believe in painting.
I polish mine after each use.
Use heavier ones for drifting on breezy days and lighter ones for calmer conditions.
Usually have a couple of muppets above which usually catch whereas, in my opinion, the pirk attracts.
I like to feel my pirk bouncing of the sea bed.
As far as Galwat Bay is concerned, I find that pirks fish better in the winter period. Will still catch, however, at other times.

cant get a crome machine so was thinking lumunuse red or yellow will try a few of each and see how i get on have a few rools of shiny halografic tape will be trying that too along with gloin the dark paint if i can find any think woodies has some
