Hi guys. Just bought a boat with old Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke electric start outboard. What a kind of battery i need to use for start, lights and fishfinder/gps unit?

Car battery is ok to get you out of a hole id an 065 in mine for few weeks but would recommend it as they run down fairly quick as nothings keeping them charged
Id recommend a leisure battery as the slow cycle in them are more reliable an will last alot longer, no harm to have a cheap multimeter aswell as you can keep a check on it

Nothing's keeping them charged? Surely the engine is keeping them charged. There is nothing draining them when not in use and fitted with an isolator.
I've used car/jeep batteries in my boats for years without issue. Users make their choices!!
