Engine wont pull

Postby Dicenintra » Tue Jun 10, 2014 3:46 pm

Hi was wondering if anyone can help with this. I have 4hp Suzuki auxilliary. It was running fine but after the winter laid up when I pull the cord is stuck.

I suspect that the switch that prevents you pulling when the gear is engaged is jammed but I can't find the mechanism. I dissassembled the pull cord mechanism to the flywheel, but short of taking the flywheel off I cant see what is jamming.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

take the spark plug out, put a small drop of engine oil in the cylinder where the spark plug came out of and try turn the engine by hand at the flywheel. sounds like it could be partial seize from laying up over winter?

Thanks folks, she was well and truly seized. Here is how I fixed it. Lay the engine plug side up and take the plug out. Spray a shitload of wd40 in the cylinder, Leave it lying plug side up. DO this for 4 or 5 days. On the fifth day attach a socket to the flywheel try to move the flywheel in a clock wise direction if it wont move, note the position. Strike the socket, in a clockwise direction with a hammer , loads of small strikes if you get some movement keep at it, if not repeat the wd40 procedure for another few days. My engine is running perfectly now.

Perfect! Great to see a plan come together.
Winterising: A drop of neat two stroke into the bores and worked around should stop a repeat (Orr fogging oil).
