Fitting a search light

Tue Dec 20, 2005 1:04 am

Hi

I want to mount a remote searchlight on the roof of my boat
I have a raymarine sl70 pathfinder radar ..... if I mount the light 4 feet in front of it will it affect the radars performance ?

The light is about 8" high ... the radar is mounted at a slight angle ... in the pictures below you can see where the old mast is for the gps, this has been removed and a flush mounted gps has been installed

Thanks for any help

Shouldn't be a problem - I've been on loads of boats that have had sodding great steel funnels behind the radar - but this doesn't seem to have left a significant blind spot - same with masts etc both forward and aft of the radome. You could always just sit the lamp up and fire up the radar and see what happens, but I really don't think it'll be a problem.

Boat looks nice sitting in the water b0ogaloo.

Did you ever sort out that query with the radar?

Yes the radar problem was sorted ..

By buying a feckin new one  , I had to get a raymarine guy out to look at it , He told me whoever had installed it originally( ie ..Hardy Marine, as the boat was the Southampton boat show demonstrator of 99.) Didnt fit the breather tube to allow condensation to escape, the result being that the raydome seized up. I was going to buy a chart plotter anyway...so went the whole hog and bought the combined radar / chart plotter hsb2 unit...
£1600 lighter in the pocket now ...but hey its worth it
