Sun Jun 14, 2009 11:32 pm

Hi all finally got the longliner out today it was great. There was only one problem the fishfinder page of the Garmin 178 did not display the sea floor, any fish or the depth of water we were in.
Thanks

Check your connections - perhaps the sounder is not linked up. Check the sounder itself to see if there's any damage.

Could do with a bit more info here.
Am I right in assuming that the 178 is a gps that can be used as a sounder as well if hitched to a transducer… do you have a transducer fitted? For example the 178c is not shipped with a t/ducer, its optional. If you have a t/ducer fitted check the settings maybe the range is set to manual rather than auto? Maybe reset to factory settings to clear any previous settings. Check your connections. Listen to the transducer and see if you are getting “ticks or pings” lack of same could indicate a faulty t/ducer.
