Fishing in Gambia

Thu Sep 28, 2006 8:33 pm

A few of us are planning to go to Gambia for a week at the end of October 2007. We would like to do several types of fishing. I have been told that the beach fishing is excellent and that plugging from the rock is unbelievable. We would also like to do some boat fishing.

If anybody has any info I would eternally grateful. .....a good hotel, guides, boats, fishing marks etc.

We went to Kenya last February and probably might have got more out of the trip if we had done more homework in advance.

Are you going over to fish the above comp??
There are a few of us heading over on the 27th, and if this year is as good as last year we will be in for some spectactular fishing, we had jacks/tuna and queenfish (biggest 16lbs) on surface poppers from many of the rock marks with captainfish, ladyfish, kasava from the beaches, all well into double figures with plenty of other types of fish to be had like catfish, guitarfish, many diff species of ray inc stingray, butterfish, angelfish, barracuda, and a few we never came across before too.. The fish size can vary from 2-3lbs to 100lb+ from the beach you just never know whats going to turn up. There are lots of boats up for rent at Denton Bridge area with the chance of some massive fish from them, you could ask for "Yellowman" he is a good guide and 9/10 times will put you on fish.

With regards to hotels most are fine a bit basic but unless you want to go 4-5* (ocean bay being one of the very best) but there are plenty of reasonable hotels around the cape point area near Bakau, with pubs and restaurants, the other place worth checkin out is Senagambia witch has lots of hotels, bars, nite clubs, and a good varity of restaurants.
The only thing id say to you is make sure you cover yourself for all eventualitys tackle wise as if you havnt got it with you it cant be got!!
take spares of all the essentials, line, weights, hooks, elastic, tip lights and worth throwing in are some spare eyes just in case.
