Fishing Down Under

Hi All

I just thought I'd post a quick little report from my holidays. I was on the west cost of Australia in a camper doing a bit of a road trip. This part of the world is where I first got into fishing. Its so accessible over there nearly every store or petrol station will sell bait and tackle.

One day I decided to pick up the cheapest rod available after all it would be left behind and a pack of spinners. the first attempt was just after sunset in a place called coral bay. It was a quick session about half an hour, nothing stirred and after a bad snag I gave up it was time for Dinner.

The next attempt was in a place called Carnarvon on mud banks where a rive met the sea. About an hour here didn't do much, there were fish jumping in front of me I think the spinner was chasing them rather than the other way around. I did have a first here, though I managed to catch a spinner that i had lost earlier in the session.

The third place I tried was a place called Kalbarri. Here I decided to make a bit more of an effort. I went to the local tackle shop and bought a simple two hook rig for the local estuary and a pack of prawns. An hour session got a few taps on the rod which was a great feeling as it had been a very long time since I had felt that. Nothing hooked though.

The next morning was going to be my last attempt of the holiday. Another hour session and lots of taps the, prawns came off the hooks easily. However I did manage to catch 3 fish small mind you but I don't mind I'm always happy with any fish. The result was 2 small yellow fin bream and 1 sand whiting.
