Just back from two weeks in the north of Mallorca. Absolutely beautiful place and fish galore! I got out fishing every morning and caught 7 new species.. Fishing in the local harbour with bread and small lures, I caught thick lipped mullet, golden grey mullet, annular seabream and saddled seabream. I fished the outside of the harbour on the rocks with coreanos, lures and bread. This was very successful as I caught big Salema, ornate wrasse, peacock wrasse and various bream..
There was also a small canal where saltwater mixed with freshwater. I saw Bass upto 8 pound here but they were not interested in anything. I unsuccessfully tried for mullet here but caught some nice gilthead bream. The last day was one of the best days. I threw out some bread from the rocks to try and attract the mullet. I had a float setup and ready to go when a school of leerfish came and started smashing into the mullet. I quickly switched to a surface lure to try catch them and kept throwing in bread to keep the mullet there. My lure got slapped by the leerfish with their tail but no hook-ups!! I then switched to a black minnow and another leerfish followed it in and bit the tail off!!! I went home with no fish that day but I'll never forget the sight of the leerfish smashing into the mullet!!! It was a great holiday and my rod ( Savage gear roadrunner) was excellent too.
