Bass selling reported to ERFB

Postby John D » Thu Aug 24, 2006 2:10 pm

I witnessed an incident of bass selling at a market today. I rang the Eastern Regional Fisheries board and also sent them off this e-mail:

"Hello,

I would like to report an incident of fresh bass being offered for sale at the Irish Village Markets on the corner of Simmonscourt and the Anglesea Rd., Dublin 4. Telephone 2841197 or e-mail info@irishvillagemarkets.com.

I told the man that it was illegal to sell bass in Ireland. He said it wasn't and that he got them off the trawlers at Clogher Head fisherman's co op. I asked him where they caught them and he said in the South Irish sea. I told him again that it was illegal to sell these bass.

I look forward to hearing of any actions or reports on this matter.

Regards,
John Devlin"

One point, John:

It is not illegal to sell Bass. Farmed Bass may be sold quite legally.

What that guy was selling is illegal alright, if what he told you is true, and fair play to you for taking action.
