Excellent,

If some Garda know about illegal fishing then we might be able give them a call when we see all this illegal netting going on. The fisheries are either under staffed or as mentioned before are worried about personal safety when removing some poachers nets.

Excellent!

This is really good news. Long may this kind of operation continue.
Thanks for pointing this out to us Leon.

In my experience the guards on the ground know sweet FA about fishery law, and they're even less willing to help when fisheries board staff need assistance.... I know the fisheries officers get some (minimal) training on how to deal with aggressive/violent behaviour, but it wouldn't be too much to expect that when confronted with this kind of thing they could expect the guards to give them a hand.... wishful thinking!

well as a joke i laugh wes but the problem is that it aint fair to pick on guys that have views the same as ourselves but are powerless to do anything, it would be better perhaps to show up, chat with them, get their details, get their views, and use this as a basis to try to perhaps gather a portfolio to present to the police/garda on their inabilities / trained skills to do anything about it and perhaps suggest a training programme for guards in coastal areas so as they really do know what to do about it when the situation arises?? half the police stations up here arent even manned for most of the week never mind knowing what to do about illegal fishing...!!

rant over, i aint having a dig, just putting forward a viable suggestion.

Yes indeed BigPhil

I agree with BigPhil. His is a more positive approach and one that may have a significant impact.

 God no lads, I'm not suggesting anything, in fact I wouldn't even suggest approaching them, their only out to fish/relax, not work.
Was meant in a humorous way, hence the laughing smiley face.

i know that was the inted sugestion wes, i was only saying that if the comp is on that anyone local could take it upon themselves to find out more info in the eventual hope of making things better for all of us! 8)
