They are telling us to practice social isolation and to get away from crowds, definitely no better way to do that than to go fishing

I live within 2 km of the rocks where I'd like to go fishing. The chances of meeting anyone else are seriously remote.

tbh i think it would be ok if you walk there and meet no one on the way or while fishing - if youre driving then you may have to get fuel and that is a social interaction - if you are positive you can cut those out, then i dont see why not

For legal reasons I'd say ask the local Gardai.

I know the pain about 140 of the finest lug you could dig and about 4 dozen crab and with only 5lt's of sea water to keep the alive there is going to be a lot of dead lug to be buried back at sea. Naturally I'll have to carry out the funeral arrangements myself.

How long do the lug and crab normally survive at home?

If I look after the lug and change the water and wash out the trays every second or third day I could have them for up to 3 weeks if they are not used up by then.
I keep the fridge at 4 degrees c.

The warmer days at the moment have the crab popping like mad so they are going into the freezer.

Ah so being close to fresh salt water is the key to keep em long term. Would ya need a aeration pump or anything fancy?

I heard fish be nice a plump from all them peeler by the time lockdown is over.

Yano freezeing them, do you have to take out the lungs before freezing ? If so, why?

I keep them lug in Haribo sweet containers they stack into each other leaving a space of about 20mm between them.
Depending on the size of the lug I would have between 8 and 10 lug in each tray.

I shell the crab, remove the legs and lungs, read it somewhere that was the way to do it. I wrap them individually in cling film this keeps out the air which would cause frost bite.

I hope they will fatten up a bit had this fellow last week, measured 47cm (specimen length 45cm) and it didn't make a Kg.

Have you tried salting them down instead of funeral arrangements I do this every time i need to discard unused bait. Drain each container lay out some newspaper
sprinkle it with salt then lay out the bait on the paper sprinkle more salt over them and roll wrap them individually in the paper then in clingfilm as this protects them from frost burn in the freezer I have them for over six months using this method

I read about this before, once salted they are kinda only good for flats then isnt it? No good for the cod and bass.

Never really had to do it as I'm a good man to get out and put them on a hook.

About 90% of the lug are the black type that make your fingers go yellow. I was told to gut then and freeze them in newspaper like they do with the black wraps. Looks like I will end up doing that
