Fishing Licence Canary Islands

Sun Sep 24, 2017 4:23 pm

For anybody going to the Canaries a licence can now be obtained online. It lasts for 3 years and costs €40. The link is http://www.gran-canaria-beaches.com/gra ... cense.html . I got my licence back in 2 days by email. Well worth it for peace of mind.

Kevin Brain who used to guide in Waterville has moved there recently. I'll be honest, Kevin sponsored the Ballinskelligs leg of the Irish Kayak Angling Champs 2016 and was very helpful for my first competition including checking up on me during the day. Other than that I don't know him but have a look here https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1 ... ent_filter

Yes fishing is quite good there. Our main target will be sting rays and butterfly rays. But there are monkfish, smooth hounds , bluefish , bream , barracuda and bonito to be caught from the shore. We will be fishing for quality rather than quality. Apparently there are god spotted bass to be caught on the west coast. I have been in contact with Kevin and will hopefully meet him over there.

Boat fishing is quite good with the possibility of Marlin and tuna when trolling. We caught amberjacks and dentex bream when ground fishing. Pics to follow.

nice fishing especially the rays, seen massive ones wandering around in the harbours before in daylight...

Just to say that on the rocky shores, especially the volcanic areas, there are often long and deep gullies up which the tide will run. These can be excellent places to fish, with decent bream from several species (all very tasty!) available to supermarket frozen prawn, suitably thawed. Just fish it right on the bottom of the gullies using wrasse like tactics. The only proviso are (a) the rocks can be razor sharp and (b) the tide can run in behind you very quickly on the flatter marks...
