How best to travel to Norway

Wed Feb 05, 2014 12:11 am

As title suggests, I am looking for advice from people who have travelled (or have already planned a trip) to fish in Norway.
My destination could well be the island of Soroya on the very North coast
where should i fly from and who (airline) should i fly with..?
what is the most economical way to travel once i get there.. should i hire a car..?

thanks in advance 8)

ps. can anyone suggest tour operators / fishing holidays packages..?? or would it be best to plan it myself?
and, any general opinions on Soroya would be great too!

Mostly if you are heading to the fishing camps you will have to get to Alta which means a flight from london to Oslo, and a Second flight to Alta,SAS go from Heathrow and Norwegian from Gatwick,Norwegian fares are slightly cheaper but costs will go up with rod tubes luggage etc,Dintur are the travel agents I have used and found them Ok.Normally a group of four is ideal. If you decide to go to Soroya island check that where your going to isnt on the open sea side of the island,if you got bad weather you might not be able to get out fishing and there isnt a whole lot else to do,Also bear in mind that the cost of everything in Norway is way above even Ireland.

hi Charlie, on all the trips we've been on to Norway we have booked our own flights and dealt directly with the fishing camp owner so as to cut out the travel agent. I just got our flights booked the other week for Norway this summer again. depending on the day you fly out and return you can get a direct flight from Dublin to oslo with Norwegian airlines that will connect you on up to alta or bardufoss.
booking it all yourself and avoiding the agents can save you a massive amount of money mate.
the first time I did it I checked out what it was gonna cost via an agent to the same camp with the same airline at the same time and it was almost £400 per person dearer just for the privilege of the agent doing it for us. and considering there was 6 of us going it was a massive saving that we made :P

Thanks for that Brian. Good advice about finding a base with a bit of shelter from the open sea too, cool
