IM putting this post up just as a matter of interest to gain a few opinions off the anglers off this site in regards to their favourite rod brands. Basically my question is that with us all knowing that zziplex have dominated the luxury rod market for some time now is there any other rods that match up them completely on the fishing scene ??? I ask this as for most of my fishing has been done with century rods for years and have owned countless versions of the brand and have kind of gone off the feel of them as of lately now in not a zziplex expert but i have owned a couple of their rods over the years including the primo,2500,primo match, bullet and have used a few others and i have also owned a highlander and ballistic and have used the nemisis range from conoflex who are another brand with a huge pedogree but in the last year i have bought two rods that easily match or in my mind out perform any rod i have ever owned or used they are the afaw tournament match and the new Daiwa tournament 139m. The afaw is jus effortless to fish with has everythin you would possibly need in a long range match rod and tha Daiwa tournament which is just a beast full of power and a nice glass tip i bought on a tip from a friend who knows Daiwa rods and am completu sold on it. So wat in really askin is do zziplex still dominate like they used to on the fishing scene (and i mean fishing scene not casting) or is there other rods jus as good as them . I know there is no right answer to this everyone to their own but id like to hear your opinions

Rod choice is a personal thing i love using conoflex always have always will. I do have a few zippies as well and love them just as much.
There is not a man our manufacture that can make a blank like Terry Carroll at Zziplex

It's interesting that you mention Daiwa. I've had many rods over the years but I've used high end Daiwa rods since the early 90s starting with the original Whiskers, then the AWT's and in 2005 I got a Tournament X. My only regret about the X is that I didn't get 2 of them. Undoubtedly, it's the best rod I've ever used. I don't think Daiwa are producing anything worthwhile in that category anymore.

i have only started using Daiwa rods lately myself my friend is a huge Daiwa fan and it was him that put me onto them and im currently using the Daiwa tournament from the 2010 range and im just in love with it its a beast and has made me think of why o haven used Daiwa rods in the past it has a big price tag though i think it was about 480 sterling on release but an animal of a fishing rod the butt is a bit thick but ya don't really notice it i like it so much that it has encouraged me to buy more Daiwa rods and i have recently purchased a rgm from the z range also 2010 models it is an out and out rough ground rod and im very pleased with its performance ... I don't think alot of people are aware of Daiwa high performance rod pedigree well maybe in England but definitly not Ireland as i myself have only start using them recently.. Most people associate them with their cheaper rubbish but their high end stuff is seriously top notch and im jus in love the "fishing" feel they give yet remaining light and stacked with power

zziplex and centurys are my own preference i do actually like the daiwa rods but i find the diameter of the butt is just horrible there mostly 28-30mm they really need to cut that down in my opinion
