online shop vs local stores?

Hi all,
I've had a dilemma for a time now, keep going online to order isome worms, hart absolut worms and Slug-gos...
but though it may seem cheaper online, ya get shafted with postage.
So what do people on here prefer or choose? online and stiff postage,so have to bulk buy , or their local tackle shop( which I'd rather do myself, though can't seem to find any of the above in them out west.)

The trick with buying online is getting stuff that is still cheaper even when you factor in postage.

I usually buy online because i'm a poor student, but i try to support the local tackle shops when i can. Its nice to have a place i can go and browse in, and have a chat to the staff. Plus if you need stuff in a hurry theres no alternative.

One of the problems i find out west is that they can't stock a selection of quality goods. The customers for goods like that don't really exist out here. Theres maybe 50 at most, and thats not enough for a business. Its annoying but i can't really blame the tackle shops.

guess I'll wait til my next dublin trip and pop into southside or ABC.

Local tackle shop. I use Southside Angling and they consistently stock 99% of the tackle I need at prices that match online prices. If they don't have something in stock they will order it in. I think sometimes these days people are quick to go online but a lot of the time the equivalent prices are found at home. I can't vouch for other tackle shops.
Southside have a website which must mean they deliver so worth giving them a ring when your pricing stuff.

Or if you have a chance pop into A Shore Thing on the
Quays in Westport. Doug has a very good selection of tackle available plus he's a mine of information and tips. He'll point you in the right direction for the species that ur after.

I prefer to buy local and usually do but if something is a fair bit cheaper online then ill buy from the uk.
Parcel motel is very good for small items upto the size of a shoe box. It delivers to antrim giving cheap postage and then nightline bring it down south to somewhere local. The first 2 uses are free and only €3.50 after that.

Completely prefer using local.
Online looks cheaper and sometimes is but you can always ask or let the supplier know that you can get it online cheaper and can he help.

But postage and stuff is a killer.

And waiting for the new stuff is worse.

Southside are good but so is henrys in dublin they have absolutely everythin regards sea lures and also wil post anywhere at reasonable prices give their website a look...

I bought a new reel about two weeks ago online in from Henry's tackle I got next day after i ordered it.With the post and price of the reel it was still cheaper than tackle shop , but in saying that i have got my fingers brunt in the passed from buying online.You just have to weigh it up yourself I guess.

id buy most of my tackle online as if i was to take the price of fuel from where i live in to consideration the postage seems cheap,i do like to buy from whatever online irish shops when possible do,but as already been said if i see something thats cheaper overseas by a good margin ill take that option & only buy off reputible dealers & have to say i havent been stung yet

Depends where you go to, one place gives me 10% off on a regular basis, another shop in Galway will throw a bit of too. I'd echo what the boys are sayin about postage costs, there's some stuff thats more specialised that I get online as I suppose tackle shops can't supply you some things in particular. The bonus about the local shop is the chat, good advice on what you need/are looking for and info on where is catching and where is quiet. Off course information gets recycled between buyer and seller. There's pros and cons with each place but its hard to beat checking out the local tackle shop.

I have to agree with what hurler 01 said,i hear what the lads are saying about postage but at the end of the day in supporting my local shops i also get 10% of in the shop that i go to regular and the other always knocks a few quid of aswell so ill be sticking with the locals for the moment.Most times im in them its to get the bits and bobs but sometimes id just call in for a chat and see whats the news around and and advice if im thinking of going to an area that i dont know much about.

Unfortunately I end up on-line as there are no half way decent stores here. Dublin is too far away as well. The on-line postage can take the good out of it but not always. Downside is you don't get to see and feel an item and can occasionally get something that's not what you thought it would be.
I find Henry's postage cost to be ridiculously high to be honest.
I'd love to buy in a store but the next best thing is to try to buy on-line but from within Ireland.

I have to agree with mackdublin I find south side absolutely brilliant ,offering great advice and some good deals ,I only bought a boat rod and package from Glasgow angling centre through sea angler and was very impressed with the free delivery and was delivered the next day in a big box:)

Can't say a bad word about Southside. They stock everything I need, good discounts, great customer service and I like to support the local economy so it's local shop all the way for me.

I would love to support the local economy but, unfortunately, as there are no stores nearby who stock what I need I am forced to buy on-line and often from outside the country.
