Im not sure we are talking about the same place but Trench is the shallow beach on the right hand side as you drive up the peninsula, opposite a caravan park. There is a small river that flows in to the right of the beach, over a bridge that allows one car at a time. The beach fishes from low water up for ray mainly but we have had surprise bass off it at times. To be honest only small schoolies. We fish it when the peninsula is blown out and its the only sheltered beach without going over the conor pass. Produces flats and dogs too. Wouldnt be my favourite mark, mainly a fall back mark for comfort if conditions are crap (Jesus sounds like Im getting old) :-)

If you follow the beach round to the extreme left there is a rocky point thats worth a look 2 hours into the rise with a popper.
Check it out on google maps, very rough ground and they definitly stop to feed here before heading into the bay. Again not somewhere I have fished lots, I would use it as a fall back.

Eoghan , I have had two double figure Bass fishing close to the rocks to the right of the stream using very fresh Mackerel , casting no more than ten yards out from the rocks , fishing over high water.

I think we are talking about two different places. Trench is a shallow beach with a small stream and I could be wrong but there are no rocks that I am awrae of to the right of the stream, just more beach. I just google mapped it there to make sure Im not going mad..! :-)
Do you have pics of the bass and the surrounding area.>? Could tell you where it was from that.

the trench flows out from lough gill into the sea and on a map it looks like it is just a canal between two beaches but it isnt, I heard it is good spot for ray and doggies

Eoghan, as you stand on the beach with the small stream to the left , the rocks are to the left of the stream and follow the route of the road.

Ah ok I know where you are talking about, you had said the right of the stream which was throwing me. There are a few rocks at the base of the hill on the corner of the road as you follow it further onto the peninsula. How long ago was that and again any pics..?

No worries , I confuse myself sometimes!. Had one just over 10lb in 2000 , and one 11lb 2oz in 2005 and lost another good fish the very next cast , sorry only have the photos on my garage wall only started a digital 'library' in the last few years.

Fished it this year in the middle of may, it was hot day and all we had was some rockling and a few flounders we didn't stay long... But it is a good place for ray, when they come into tralee bay...
