Cuttlefish Bones washed up by the hundreds in Kerry.

Mon Apr 29, 2013 2:13 pm

Hi folks,

I'm after a bit of information regarding the massive amounts of Cuttlefish Bones being washed up on the Kerry beaches. We fished Inch last week with Tralee Bay SAC and the high water line was full of them. Does anyone know what caused this as I've never seen this kind of a thing before. I thought this was only on Inch but we fished Banna yesterday and a fella could easily of filled a car with them if they so wanted. I assume the cuttlefish that are now without their bones are long dead??

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I've seen loads around Cromane this week too and assumed they were just discarded from cleaned Cuttlefish that had been caught commercially, perhaps there's more to it.

I've seen them washed up outside of Kinsale in big quantities too. This was winter time in the past , sorry nothing to add on possible reasons ????
