Interesting historical data

I came across a reference to this book published in 1856:

Gives you some indication of how much fishing as deteroriated since then.

I once picked up an old fishing annual when I was 12 or so in a school sale of work, it was "mr Crabtree's annual fishing book" I think. Basically had a number of artciles of fishing in it. One was himself, leslie Moncrief and a few others fishing Stradbally in Brandon. They ended up with a couple of 8Ib bass each, pic for proof etc. Then later that night they fished from the rocks at the end of the beach at the mouth of the estuary and hammered bass, cod, spurdog etc all night long. Some clonking fish. I have lost the annual since (im 38 now) and excuse the pun but im gutted I did. The fishing back in the late 50's and 60's looked amazing..! I never knew I would go on to fish Brandon so much later on. I would give anything to have that annual back.

There was a fishing program on Ouest Sky 154 called Fishing in the footsteps of Mr Crabtree with John Baily showing young kids the art of freshwater fishing good series being repeated everyday this week ( not sure about next week ) at midday and a new fishing show on Thursday on the same channel at 21.00 Rod and rucksack.
